Oh, a great beginner book to electronics that is a classic is There Are No Electrons: Electronics For Earthlings:

I'll still looking for that perfect introductory to electronics text though! The Art of Electronics just seems too intimidating. I'm slowly working through All New Electronics Self-Teaching Guide which isn't too bad.
All these different builders on the ILF forum just inspire me to learn and try new things. Kudos to them!
